Travel and days out

Explain simple plans for a real or imagined trip.

1. Grammar: Going to: future plans

Use am/is/are + going to + base verb for a plan. Put am/is/are before the subject to ask a question. Add not after am/is/are for a negative. Use tomorrow, next week, or next month to say when.

Model conversation

A: Where are you going to go next week?

B: I am going to go to the beach.

A: What are you going to bring?

B: I am going to bring water and a hat.

2. Basic words and verbs

Say each word, read its meaning, and make a sentence using the example.

visit

to go and see a person or place

I am going to visit a friend.

travel

to go from one place to another

We are going to travel by bus.

stay

to spend time in a place

I am going to stay in a hotel.

pack

to put things in a bag for a trip

I am going to pack a shirt.

bring

to take something with you to a place

I am going to bring water.

leave

to go away from a place

We are going to leave at eight.

return

to come or go back

I am going to return on Sunday.

hotel

a place where you pay to sleep

We are going to stay in a hotel.

beach

land next to the sea

I am going to visit the beach.

trip

a journey to a place and back

My trip is next week.
