Choosing clothes

Compare clothes and explain whether they suit your needs.

1. Grammar: Comparatives, too, and enough

Use adjective-er + than for many short adjectives and more + adjective + than for many longer ones. Some forms are irregular: good → better. Use as + adjective + as to show equality. Too + adjective means more than wanted; adjective + enough means sufficient. Put enough before a noun: enough money.

This is + comparative + than that. → This coat is warmer than that one.
This is as + adjective + as that. → This shirt is as comfortable as that one.
It is too + adjective. → It is too tight.
It is / isn’t + adjective + enough. → It isn’t warm enough.
I have enough + noun. → I have enough money.

Model conversation

A: Which jacket do you prefer?

B: The blue one is more comfortable than the black one.

A: Is it warm enough?

B: Yes, but it is too expensive for me.

4. Extend your answer

Choose three questions and answer again without the starters. Use at least three words from the word bank. Add a reason with “because,” an example with “for example,” or a contrast with “but.” Ask your partner one follow-up question.
