Clothing

Describe clothes you own and clothes you need.

1. Grammar: Have/has and this/these

Use have with I/you/we/they and has with he/she/it. Questions and negatives use do/does + have. Use this is for one nearby item and these are for more than one. Put a color before a noun: a blue shirt. Use a/an with one countable item; shoes and trousers are plural.

I have + item. → I have a blue shirt.
She has + item. → She has a coat.
Do you have + item? → Do you have a hat?
He doesn’t have + item. → He doesn’t have a jacket.
This is a shirt. / These are shoes.

Model conversation

A: Do you have a coat?

B: Yes, I do. I have a black coat.

A: Does your friend have a coat?

B: No, she doesn’t. She has a jacket.
