A: Hi! Do you have a moment? I wanted to ask about taking some leave.
B: Of course, go ahead.

Natural Phrases to Know

Requesting annual leave

I'd like to request some time off. I was hoping to take leave from [date] to [date]. I have [X] days of leave remaining — is it okay to use some? I've made sure my work will be covered. Would that be possible?

Calling in sick

I'm not feeling well today — I won't be able to come in. I woke up with a fever / bad cold. I'll keep you posted on how I'm feeling. I should be back tomorrow / by end of week. I've handed over my tasks to [name].

Handling urgent or unexpected absence

Something's come up — I may need to leave early today. I have a family emergency — I'll be out for a day or two. I'm sorry for the short notice. I'll make sure everything is in order before I go. Can we catch up when I'm back?

Returning from leave

I'm back! Did I miss anything important? Thanks for covering while I was away. Could you bring me up to speed? I'll get through my emails and then check in.
